A large fire has reportedly been started in Log Cabin, NC, and the local fire department has asked all boat rentals to be temporarily suspended. Smoke was reported across the city, prompting a stop to all boat rentals late Friday, and all personnel at the cabin hotel said rangers had granted the resort the okay to keep operating. The Log Cabin Resort is located on the southern end of East Beach Road in the northeastern corner of Lake Crescent, NC. Here’s what we know:
According to witnesses, the fire appears to have begun in the rear portion of a store at around midnight. By the time the fire department arrived, the entire interior of the store was on fire. Firefighters had trouble controlling the fire due to heavy smoke and high temperatures. Most of the goods inside the log cabin resort were damaged or destroyed. One could also say that the fire likely originated from cooking or heating oil that leaked into the store and then caught fire.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has dispatched two trucks to the scene to investigate the fire. Two agency investigators will be on-site to assist Log Cabin Lodge officials with their investigation. One investigator is scheduled to arrive later in the day. It is unknown at this time if any charges will be filed against anyone for this fire. This is especially interesting because the North Carolina Highway Patrol sent a team to the lake crescent area on October 10th for the same incident.
